Paul Adams presented at the 2013 IIE Great Lake Conference. His presentation was intended for students and practitioners interested in learning about time study methods and various business applications. Starting with a brief introduction on time study goals, Dr. Adams presented an overview of time study principles and common methods. Concepts of elapsed time, elemental approaches, and standard data were discussed, along with techniques used in performing actual studies. Dr. Adams then discussed various applications for time studies, ranging from setting labor standards to ergonomic assessments and process planning to forensic applications. He provided an example of how time study methods can provide technical assistance in wage and hour litigation related to worker activities such as donning and doffing protective clothing.
